The District buzz on Monday, April 15 surrounded Mrs. World, April Lufriu, and her visit to our Nation’s Capital. She met and shared dinner with the 2013 Mrs. DC America, Meagan B. Barnes at Barcode. The DC Restaurant/Bar/Lounge is the official sponsor of the event.

The Mrs. DC America Organization was proud to welcome April Lufriu, Mrs. World 2012-13 to DC this week. Mrs. World was met and greeted by the newly crowned Mrs. DC America 2013 at Barcode.

Mrs. World is an international beauty pageant organized annually as a beauty contest for married women. It is originally based on the Mrs. America beauty pageant. Arranged on lines similar to other beauty pageants, it also lays stress on women’s opinion on marriage. It has been organized since 1985.

The Mrs. DC America Pageant publicly recognizes beautiful married women, living and/or working within a 25-mile radius of Washington, DC, who have obtained personal, professional and community achievements. An official preliminary pageant to Mrs. America and Mrs. World, the Mrs. DC America Pageant welcomes women from all ethnic backgrounds to compete in a yearly pageant for the title of Mrs. DC America.

1. Choose light food
   Salads with light dressing, soups, grilled green beans or the grilled vegetable Panini will be enough to keep you feeling healthy and fulfilled. You can eat as much as you want and finish the plate by yourself without having to unbutton your pants.

2. Share appetizers and entrées like tapas
   Finger foods and easily dividable dishes work great with big groups or on a one-on-one date. Splitting three or four of these types of dishes makes dining more fun: tasting all types of food while keeping the bites to a minimum.

3. Space it out
   Talk and drink in between bites and chew your food! If you wait 30 seconds in between each bite, your body will have enough time to tell you when you are ready to put down the fork. This is a must, especially when you see your plate clearing up. It takes the body about 20 minutes to trigger the ‘full’ feeling so take your time and enjoy your meal.
4. Feel bad letting food go to waste?
   Make sure you eat the meats and seafood first. Salads, vegetables and soups can be wrapped up for later or thrown away without guilt.
5. Want dessert? 
   Luckily, Barcode has treats big enough for your sweet tooth but small enough to ease your guilt. Our Raspberry Cheesecake and Tiramisu are perfect for just one stomach. If you want a taste of our Nutella Pizza, make sure you have company that wants to split it in half!
