Eating healthy does not have to be difficult, especially at one of DC’s most popular Restaurants and Lounges: Barcode. Want no dressing on your salad? Want to order that burger with no bun? Want to eat pasta but you are allergic to Gluten? Our chef will accommodate and listen to any of your requests. Below you will see a list of some of our more popular healthy options.
Appetizer suggestions
Try ordering our famous “Mussels to Share” made with Pinot Grigio, San Marzano tomatoes, herbs and ciabatta bread. Want to have something healthier? Try it without the bread!
Anything spicy can spark up that metabolism. Try ordering our spicy shrimp made Spanish style with garlic habanera oil served w/toasted ciabatta (once again we suggest to hold the bread – for those of us that are health conscious).
A staff favorite is the Seafood Ceviche made with an assortment of raw fish, sundried tomatoes, olives, onions and sweet peppers.
Salads
Whenever ordering a salad anywhere we highly recommend for you to ask for dressing on the side.
Here at barcode you can add chicken, shrimp or steak to any salad for a small charge changing that “light dish” into a “full meal.” Our most famous salad is the Barcode Salad made with lemon dressing, goat cheese, oranges, strawberries, almonds and balsamic. Add a side of grilled chicken and you’ve just ordered a very good and nutritious meal!
Sandwiches can be healthy too!
Are you a vegetarian and still want some carbs? Our Grilled Veggie Panini has your name all over it! Served With a side mixed green salad, grilled veggies, avocado, sundried tomato tapenade on a ciabatta bread, obviously this is not a kid’s meal! One bite of this monster and you will see why it is one of our most popular sandwiches.
Pasta tastes so good you cannot resist!
Do you have that pasta craving? Watching your carbs and always avoiding pasta at restaurants? Its ok we’ve got a good solution for you. First of all our pastas are made with fresh egg linguini and just like on a salad you can add grilled chicken, steak or shrimp for a small fee. You can also tell our staff to go “light on the sauce.” But wait it gets better, want to avoid GLUTEN? It’s ok, you can order any of our pasta dishes “Gluten Free” made from rice noodles.
Get that metabolism pumping by ordering the Shrimp Arrabbiata made with jumbo shrimp, hot & sweet peppers, tomato, herbs and spices. Don’t forget to order it Gluten Free and maybe tell your waiter or waitress to tell our kitchen to go easy on the sauce.
Grilled Meats and Seafood
Here is one category where you have a lot to choose from. One thing we do different is we have a “catch of the day”. Usually our chef looks for healthy but tasty choices and our “catch of the day” varies from halibut to lobster to anything our chef feels is a good choice for you that comes from the sea. Another quick fact is that you can ask your waiter or waitress to grill any of our Meats or Seafood that doesn’t already come grilled.
Want something organic? Our Spicy Organic Chicken is a roasted bone-in chicken breast with spices and a side of green salsa which is to die for.
Probably the most healthy and filling choice on the menu is our delicious Atlantic Salmon Fillet which is grilled with fresh basil and virgin olive oil drizzle. Tell your waiter to give you a side of our mix green salad with dressing on the side to make this a full complete and healthy option.
All in all, you can go out to a nice restaurant and not feel horrible about it when you are on a diet. You just have to know how to order
